They were held for planning a dacoity. It turned out they were actually plotting a murder.

The four historysheeters — Satish Patil (29), Jaywant Shewale (39), Vijay Kamble (25) and Lakshman Shewale (43) — were arrested by the Pydhonie police last week. The police said that on August 8, they had set a trap for a gang planning to loot a shop in Pydhonie. While they arrested four, another managed to flee.

A China-made pistol and two choppers were seized from them, the police sized. On interrogation, the police learnt that the four were hired by a Pune-based businessman to kill the assailants of his brother.

“Santosh Badal paid Rs 2 lakh to the goons who were out on bail for murdering Anna Badal,” said Shamsherkhan Pathan, senior police inspector of Pydhonie police station.

“The four Karad residents were awaiting Santosh’s instructions to travel to Pune and complete their assignment,” said Pathan. “After the probe, we got a lead the arms dealer who supplied the pistol to the gang. The dealer, Praveen Yadav, was arrested on Sunday for selling weapon to the gang,” said Pathan.
