Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani said here tonight that he never anticipated such overwhelming response to his just concluded high voltage campaign of "Bharat Uday Yatra" and had serious doubts as to how people would respond to it.
"This was my first election-related Yatra. In the 1990 Somnath to Ayodhya Rath Yatra and then the Swarna Jayanti Yatra in 1997 had sentimental significance. But this time I was going to people with a dry subject like talking about development, good roads, drinking water availability", Advani said, addressing an election rally in Shahpur assembly segment that falls under his Gandhinagar parliamentary seat.
Advani, who restarted his campaigning tonight said that the maximum response to his Yatra was incidentally in Bihar, where he was arrested during his Ayodhya yatra in 1990.
"In the entire country I travelled, the most overwhelming response from all quarters of society was in Bihar", the DPM said adding, "as per my analysis it is because of a positive feeling prevailing about PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee."
He said people today feel that after a long time there has been a PM who has been able to provide political stability and certainty to the nation, which had seen seven Prime Ministers since 1988 before Vajpayee took over in 1998.
