Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna on Monday announced a 100 per cent subsidy scheme for farmers who adopt drip or sprinkler irrigation in the state, "most particularly in the Cauvery basin".

Delivering his address at the inaugural of the "World Seed Congress" organised by the International Seed Federation, Krishna said the scheme introduced in Bijapur would now be extended to farmers across the state.

He blamed the "non judicious" use of Cauvery water on either side of the border as the cause for bitterness between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

"On either side of the border there has not been judicious use of water for so many decades...This is the reason the problem continues, friction continues and bitterness pervades...," Krishna said.
