The Kent batsman is another of England's one-day squad to have benefited from spending a winter at the National Academy. He became the second player after Simon Jones to be promoted to the full squad after spending a winter in Australia with Rod Marsh. Helped England win the Youth World Cup in 1998 and made some useful contributions during the Ashes Series, including a half-century in the fourth Test in Melbourne.

His trademark shot is a back-foot biff through the covers, while his off-drive on the front foot pleases the purists too.
