The fourth edition of the International Digital Film Festival, which is currently on at Siri Fort Auditorium, is high on the youth factor. For the first time ever, the fest has come up with a student category, in which, films made by college students from across the nation and abroad will be awarded.

“Students make really good films, but they don’t get awarded, as they have to compete with professionals in award categories. I decided to create a special category for them, so that the jury can look at their films in isolation and judge them,” says Madhureeta Anand, filmmaker and festival director.

There were 600 entries for the festival, out of which, only 126 films from 55 countries were shortlisted for different categories such as Best Feature Film (above 60 minutes), Best Short Film (below 60 minutes), Best Documentary Film, Best Special Effects/ Animation, Best Student Film, and Digital Art/ Installation.

The festival has a star-studded jury in the form of actors Vinay Pathak, Raima Sen, Soha Ali Khan and filmmaker Sudhir Mishra. The festival also has international cinema personalities like documentary maker Gabriella Cristiani and Ruth Charny from New York. “Digital is the medium of the future. It allows filmmakers a lot of freedom to shoot something that they like and just in the way they want. I am excited to be a part of the festival and am planning to make digital films soon,” says Mishra.

Other Bollywood personalities who have agreed to be a part of the festival are lyricist Javed Akhtar and filmmaker Mahesh Mathai.
