Collecting art is no longer only a rich person's hobby. With art becoming more affordable, you can now own an artwork without spending a bomb on it. A number of galleries around the city have initiated the tag of affordable art in their collection. These galleries are not only promoting young artists, but are also giving art buyers bigger options in terms of better investments. We take you to three such galleries.

KALACHAKRA–LEH, LADAKH 1976
Stark, poignant and certainly worth a thousand words — Delhi-based artist Jasleen’s photographs of Leh and Ladhakh in 1976 recreate the divine magic of the sacred Kalachakra ceremony held that year. “Every morning I arrived at the venue at 4:30am. The monasteries in Ladakh had closed so that all the Rimpoches and Lamas could participate. I was given access to photograph inside the now complete, simple and beautiful glass temple,” says the artist, recalling her time spent in Leh that year. Jasleen has had 16 solo shows across the world, and divides her time between New York and Delhi. The exhibition is held at The Art Gallery, The India International Centre Annexe, Lodi Estate, 40 Max Mueller Marg. On till March 1.

GALLERY JOIE
Started in 2005 inside a mall, this gallery gets a lot of footfall due to its location. “A lot of our visitors wanted to buy our art, but they were deterred by the prices. So we decided to come up with an affordable art section,” says Priya Khanna, the gallery-owner. Khanna’s present collection is ranged between Rs 5,000 to R1 lakh and is available in various sizes and mediums, such as paper work, water colours and charcoal, to name a few. The gallery is currently running an exhibition titled, Budget Special FY 11-12, on till March 1; it is This gallery was started with a mission to promote new artists. “We are proud that after seven years into art-dealing, we still are close to our mission and are giving platform to new entrants in the art circle,” says Tripat Kalra, the gallery-owner. The range of works that the gallery offers includes drawings in pen and ink, paintings in water colours, sculptures and photographs. The gallery believes in providing their clients with a mix of creative satisfaction and good investment. The prices for the art pieces start at Rs 5,000.
