Highlight Story

Bharatanatyam dancer Radhe Jaggi, who has performed extensively throughout Tamil Nadu and also in Bangalore and Bhopal, among other cities, is set to perform in Delhi this Sunday.

Daughter of world-renowned yogi, mystic, spiritual master and founder of Isha Foundation, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, 23-year-old Radhe will perform in the city for the first time. “I’m very excited, a little nervous, but mostly excited to perform here. It is a good place to start from, and then go to other places,” says the dancer, who is currently training under Nirmala Nagraj and guided by Padamshree Leela Samson.

Radhe’s performance has a blend of rich abhinaya and crisp, streamlined aduvas. She has acquired the understanding of movement and expression through years of yoga, study and training under several gurus of Kalakshetra foundation.

What’s her take on the popularity of South Indian performing arts in North India nowadays? "The reason why south Indian dance forms may not have been very popular here is because north India has its own forms of traditional dance. But all that is fast changing now. I think Bharatanatyam also enjoys a certain advantage in the sense that it has takers both in north and south India. In fact, I know many hugely popular Bharatanatyam dancers who belong to Delhi itself," says Radhe.
