Highlight Story

This Friday, the Capital will play host to an auction that will see some rare collectibles going under the hammer. But besides the usual glamour of ladies tottering on sky-high heels and Bollywood stars, this event is meant for a good cause.

Hosted by actor Anil Kapoor and the ambassador of Italy, Giacomo Sanfelice di Monteforte in the luxe gardens of the Italian Embassy, this is a fundraiser for Plan India’s “Because I am a Girl” campaign. “Being a father of two wonderful girls, I echo Plan’s voice for investing in girls as the principal key to eliminating poverty and helping them change their world,” says Kapoor.

And joining Anil to add glamour to this event will be Rani Mukherjee. Sharing the hosting duties will be entrepreneurs, Sangeeta Assomull and Ramola Bachchan. “I’m looking forward to the auction. Olive will be catering the event and we’ve got a sumptuous spread of Indian, Mediterranean and Pan-Asian cuisine to please everyone's palette,” she says.

Besides the revelry, serious collectors can look forward to snap up some rare treasures. There are art pieces by celebrated artists like Akbar Padamsee, Ranbir Kaleka, Sunil Padwal, Hemi Bawa. Also on the auctioning block will be a limited edition Bvlgari watch — one of the only 125 pieces ever made. There’s also the very first photographic piece by designer JJ Valaya, along with a rare lithograph by Salvador Dali. And even a limited edition diamond studded pendant designed by the fabled SH Raza. Looks like the city’s banks are going to lose out some serious moolah post Friday.
