The art fraternity in India has many things to be proud of and one such is photographer Siddhartha Tawadey, has been invited to showcase his works at an exhibition in Stamford, United States.
Fifteen days into the exhibition and Tawadey has already managed to sell half of the works on display, each in the price bracket of $40,000 to $90,000.
The exhibition, titled
4 Continents on Bedford,
started on the sixth of this month at Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery, and features four artists from four different continents. The exhibition is shaped keeping in mind the different backgrounds and cultures of each.
Says Tawadey, “I am presenting my work with three different artists who belong to different genres, and as an artist, it’s a great learning [experience].” Tawadey had ten pieces on display at the gallery, most of which are selected from his work since 2003.
Speaking of his art, the photographer says, “I believe in capturing the real moment rather then the usual image. I have also started experimenting with mixed media where in I combine photographs and paintings.”
Tawadey’s specialisation lies in breaking away from the usual by developing images that are self-consciously allusive and non-referential.
“Most of my stuff is created from my references that I find in art, from surrealist to expressionism," says the artist. Tawadey is also a firm believer in presenting art in public. “Art is incomplete if it’s not viewed by the public. It’s high time we start displaying our work in public.”
