Highlight Story

On November 28 last year, 200 Mumbaikars broke into a choreographed jig at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Post that jig, flash mobs became an instant fad in the city. Now, joining the bandwagon is dance studio, Arts In Motion (AIM) which is planning to conduct a flash mob soon at an undisclosed location in the city.

“Registrations are open for anyone who is passionate about dance and wants to have a good time. People across all demographics are welcome to participate for free,” says Aanchal Gupta, director of AIM, adding people should watch out keenly as the flash mob could happen anywhere in Mumbai during the first week of March.

Ask her how the idea came about and she says with a smile, “My students wanted to do a flash mob for a long time. The excitement was tremendous when I informed them about it. Just ten minutes after informing them, I got around 60 replies from people who wanted to be a part of it. And in fact, 80 showed up at our first rehearsal including students, office-goers, kids, older people and even foreigners.” AIM has had a couple of practice sessions and is looking to arrange for a few more at their studio in Sion(E).

Gupta admits that to ensure a successful flash mob, surprise is the most important element. “I’ve banned participants from sharing the date or venue with their friends and family. Even the purpose of the event is being kept a secret.

But since it is organised by a dance studio, you can expect great choreography and peppy tunes that will catch the attention of the crowd,” she says, adding that one can expect a medley of 2011 Bollywood hits, including the likes of recent hits such as Chikni Chameli, Criminal (from RA.One) and Munni Badnaam.
