Highlight Story

This is your big electronica party for the weekend. And the best bit about it is that it’s not happening in a cramped club but under a huge weather-proof and air-conditioned hangar on NH 8. Then of course there’s a good set of DJs including our very own ‘EDM evangelist’ Nikhil Chinapa, Malaysia’s no. 1 Joey G and DJ Mags World no. 50, Marco V. Chinapa, who will kick off the gig, says this has been a fantastic year for electronic dance music (EDM).

“Lot of good things have happened this year,” says Chinapa. “Our artistes are beginning to push their boundaries and that’s resulted in some good tunes coming out especially in tech-house and trance music. We’ve got a new crop of producers, and an increasing number of people coming to these gigs so the scene is certainly on the upswing.”

Calling Marco V a legend, Chinapa says he’s looking forward to his set at the gig. Marco V has been a constant feature for years in the DJ Mags’ list of Top 100 DJs. The Dutch producer’s tracks are well known among electronic music fans. The man himself doesn’t like to follow trends. He believes going by trends is a wrong approach towards making music, unless one’s “only in it only to make money”. Nor does he like to categorise his music under any genre; it could be anything ranging from progressive house or trance or techno or even electro. He is said to have defined his music as something “energetic… with nice beats and bass lines.”

Regarding the venue, the décor and production have reportedly cost the organisers even more than the collective artistes’ fee. Huge LED and washout screens with 360 degree projections are sure to keep the crowd dancing.

One of the organisers of the event said on condition of anonymity: “Companies are hitting back with big money this year. There will be plenty to watch out all year around.”

Venue: Nitesh Kunj, NH 8 (close to Radisson Hotel), 7.30 pm onwards.
