Planning a shopping spree with your friends over the week? This time, make it an arty affair. Tucked away in different parts of the town are quirky art shops with cool things on sale — mugs, miniatures, bags, paintings, prints and even coasters. We take a look at four such art stops and tell you what to buy.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store
This shop is a treasury of art and antiquities from the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MOMA), New York. An official extension of MOMA, New York, this one has a range of intriguing sculptures, such as Abraham Lincoln’s Hand, which is a reproduction of a cast made by Volk in 1860. Also interesting is Head of a Youth, a roman bronze sculpture from the First century AD. While here, don’t miss the porcelain mugs, vases and bowls – designed in artist Jacob Marrel’s paintings.

Cool pick: Veiled dancer, a reproduction of the original statuette from the Third century, priced at R8,999
Where: G-07/B, ground floor, Select City Walk Mall, Saket
Tel: 011- 40597531

Vadehra Art book store
Inaugurated in August 2008, this is a great place to find some cool artistic stuff at affordable prices. Done up in red and white colours, the store is warm and inviting. Besides their collection of notebooks and coasters imprinted with works of art masters, we loved their latest collection of cushion covers with imprints of artist Ramachandran’s trademark lotuses and artist Anju Dodiya’s water colour paintings —priced at Rs 975. Other interesting things at the store are canvas bags and mugs.

Cool pick: Non-toxic toys by artist Arun Kumar priced at Rs 250 and goes up to Rs 2,000. There are and funky pencils and crayons.
Where: D-42, Defence Colony
Tel: 011-24622545

Religare Art Shop
This is a one-stop shop for works by Indian artisans and high end designers —from helmets to home decor items. It has a range of cool Bollywood products, including Amitabh Bachchan watches and wall clocks. The latest addition is designer Rohit Kant’s hand painted helmets, phones and shoes.

Cool pick: Francis Joseph’s stainless steel platter: The Lotus Eaten Chip priced at Rs 6,000
Where: 7, Atmaram Mansion, 1st floor, Scindia House, KG Marg
Tel: 011- 43727000

Art Shop, Delhi Art Gallery
Located amidst the bylanes of Hauz Khas Village is the revamped Art Shop of Delhi Art Gallery. Done up with golden and wooden textured walls, this small shop looks cosy and inviting. The shop is filled with memorabilia from various exhibitions and has art folios, sketch books, notepads and post cards.
