Aamad, the school run by dance guru Rani Khanam, celebrates its 14th anniversary with a Kathak Festival. “More than 500 students have worked on a piece called Antarang that will recreate the history of the dance form,” says Khanam, an advocate of the guru-shisya tradition of teaching.

What makes the 90-minute performance special is the participation of physically challenged dancers “Working with more than 25 hearing impaired dancers was challenging but satisfying,” says Khanam, who will also give a Sufi dance performance.

The school has trained more than 5,000 dancers in kathak, adds Khanam.
