Louvre Museum is world's most visited
The Louvre Museum in Paris, which houses over 600,000 art pieces including Leonardo Da Vici's Mona Lisa, has topped the list of most visited places in the world.art and culture Updated: Apr 01, 2010 19:18 IST
Over eight and a half million people visited the museum in 2009, Prensa Latina said in a report on Wednesday quoting the Arte newspaper.
The Louvre, which dates back to 1527, became a museum in 1793 and houses over 600,000 art pieces including Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa.
It is followed in the list by the British Museum in London, with 5.5 million visitors, New York's Metropolitan with 4.8 million, Washington's National Gallery of Art with 4.6 million, and Centro Pompidou and Orsay in the French capital with 3.5 and three million visitors, respectively.
