In self-imposed exile for the past 13 years following threats from Hindu fundamentalists, legendary artist MF Husain’s urge to return home is only getting stronger.
“I have three projects in hand, and after completing them, I will come back to my country. I love India and its people,” says Husain, who is currently in New York.
The ace painter, who has a fetish for painting Bollywood beauties, is now ready to put down two of his muses, Madhuri Dixit and Amrita Rao, on one canvas. “I am painting Madhuri and Amrita on the same canvas, and the painting is in progress. Once I reach Dubai, I will give it a final touch up,” he informs.
Husain’s other work is the ‘Voyage Of Discovery’, which he says will reflect “the 60 to 70 years of his experience”.
He is also busy with his next film. Penned by the painter himself, the project marks the directorial debut of his younger son Owais Husain.

Quiz him on his 94th birthday celebrations recently, when hundreds of Indian artistes presented him with a collective work expressing their solidarity for his freedom of expression, and Husain says, “I was moved by the gesture. Though I’m away from India, I don’t feel that I’m far from home. The love and affection that my people shower me with, helps me stay connected.”
