The group has only performed on contemporary issues and is coming up with a historical production for the first time. "We wanted to try something different this time. Since I have studied history and have training in classical music, what better than this," says Sarita Vohra, who has written the play.

The most interesting aspect of the play is the way it’s being presented. It begins with Pakistani musician Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan’s rendition of poet Mir’s brief commentary on the Mughals andmusician Vidya Shah’s performance.

Drama"The music will include styles such as Thumri, Khayal and Qawwali with a blend of folk — an authentic depiction of that era," she says. The story is set in the cultural lanes of Chandni Chowk, 12 years after the death of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The first twist comes when 17-year-old Mohammed Shah ascends the Mughal throne. The tale sees another turning point when Nadir Shah — the Shah of Iran, plans to invade Delhi.

An actor with National School of Drama, Teekam Joshi will be seen playing the lead role. "I have acted in many period dramas but this will be a different experience. There will be humour, emotions and a lot more to be explored," he says.
