It’s time to be a part of a contemporary dance bonanza where a unique mélange of Indian and French dance techniques will be witnessed. The first Indo-French contemporary dance festival — DanSe Dialogues, which kicked off on Wednesday, will see Indian and French dancers explore the contemporary form of dance in three innovative ways.

"Contemporary dance is something not very typical to France. It only became popular in the 1980s. Both the countries have a celebrated tradition of dance and this festival explores this unique meeting," says Aruna Adiceam, Cultural Attachée of the French Embassy, the organisers of the festival.

A part of the ongoing

DanceDelhi International Arts Festival in association with Hindustan Times, this festival will be held in three cities including Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi. The festival here will include performances by Navtej Johar, Hiroshi Miyamoto, Aditi Mangaldas, Mandeep Raikhy’s and Anusha Lall.

"The first part of the festival will project the main trends such as hip-hop, which was brought to France by immigrants of Nigeria. The second lap will see artists dance as they deliver dialogues on stage," she says.

From creating new perspectives in the way Bharatanatyam is performed, understanding the idea of a home to exploring the complex concept of timelessness. The third part of the festival will also include the use of machines, explaining the concept of contemporary dance.

"The third will be the most innovative. In this, a machine will be used, along with contemporary dance and dialogue format," adds Adiceam.
