Closet artists take heart. You don’t have to vie with big-ticket artists for a showing at the local gallery. Thanks to a new initiative by the Art Loft, an arts and crafts centre in Bandra, your work also stands a chance to be exhibited at popular Bandra restaurants like Out of the Blue, Mocha Mojo and Mia Cucina, among others. The Art Loft is organising the Art Conspiracy, a festival of exhibitions, live performances, short film screenings and night markets on October 23 and 24.

How it works
Artists can send samples of their works to the organisers until September 25. These can be in the form of drawings, paintings, graphic art, installations, sculptures, photographs, short films and samples of audio-visual art. For live performances, you need to send in a concept description. Each picture must be named and numbered to be eligible. Those interested in putting up live performances need to send a concept note.

A jury that includes performance artist Nikhil Chopra, cinematographer Mark Lapwood and director Anurag Kashyap, among
others, will choose the winning entries.

“We’d like to get together lots of different groups of artists in Mumbai,” says Kevin Tayebaly, managing director, The Art Loft. “The exhibition is an opportunity to connect and do things together.” Tayebaly informs that they chose to have the exhibition in Bandra because “it has a lot of energy”.

The restaurants that have been roped in to exhibit the works include Bonobo, Candies, Café Goa, Mia Cucina, Mocho Mojo, Out of the Blue and Yellow Tree Café. “This is a way of nurturing the art scene in Bandra,” says Tayebaly. “Keep your eyes open because there will be a lot of surprises in store.”
