With the Directorate of Film Festivals screening movies from the Indian Panorama 2009, cinegoers in the city are in for a summer treat.
National Award winner director Vinoo Choliparambil’s film Vitthal is about a 12-year-old boy’s anger over shaving his head after the death of his grandfather. Says Choliparambil: “Such platforms help take acclaimed films to a wider audience.”
Seema Kapur’s Haat centres on the Natha Pratha ritual which bars a woman from walking out of her marriage. The only way to do so is if the husband pays a hefty compensation. Or else she is stripped and paraded.
Also being screened: Land Gold Woman by Avantika Hari about an honour killing in an Indian Muslim family in U.K, Supermen of Malegaon and Latent City by Krishnendu Bose about Delhi and its many facets.
