Beatles’ legend Sir Paul McCartney’s death riddle has topped an online poll of rock’s greatest myth.

The ‘Paul is dead’ fable pushed Stevie Nick’s anal drug obsession tale to the second spot, with the tale of Mama Cass dying after choking on a ham sandwich making it to the third place, in the Rolling Stone magazine ridiculous rumours list.

Tales of Angie Bowie catching her hubby David 'Ziggy Stardust' Bowie in bed with Mick Jagger and music legend John Lennon’s assassin Mark David Chapman being hired by the CIA made it to the fourth and the fifth spots respectively, reports Contactmusic.

The winners in rock’s greatest myths are:

1. Paul McCartney is dead

2. Stevie Nicks had to find alternative ways of getting cocaine into her system after destroying her nasal passages.

3. The Mamas + The Papas star Mama Cass died after choking on a ham sandwich

4. Angie Bowie caught her husband in bed with Mick Jagger

5. Mark David Chapman was an assassin programmed to kill John Lennon by the CIA
