Instituto Tomie Ohtake
São Paulo

Named after the Japanese abstractionist and Brazilian resident, the Tomie Ohtake Cultural Institute is designed by the artist's own son, Ruy. The Obsessão infinita exhibition, open until July 27, examines the work of another Japanese multidisciplinarian, Yayoi Kusama, who also became active in the aftermath of the Second World War. In the same building, topical display Futebol Arte runs until June 22.
Pinacoteca
São Paulo

A history of modernism, an overview of engraver Marcelo Grassmann, and an extensive pottery display are all on show within the charming confines of the Pinacoteca's 1900 museum halls. For those visiting after FIFA 2014 draws to a close, a Mira Schendel retrospective is on show from July 24.
Niterói Contemporary Art Museum
Rio de Janeiro
Another stunning architectural design, this time the goblet-shaped MAC Rio built by monumental modernist Oscar Niemeyer, and whose winding panorama offers spectacular views of the city and its surrounds. Current exhibition Ressonâncias de 64: Re-existência da arte e política looks back at the Brazilian artistic community's influence upon the social landscape from 1964 onwards.
Inhotim Museum of Contemporary Art
Brumadinho, Minas Gerais
Set up by a wealthy industrialist in 2006, specializing in both open-air installations and a comprehensive range of works from national and international artists, and situated between the World Cup cities of São Paulo, Rio de Janiero and Belo Horizonte, Inhotim is known just as well for its botanical gardens as the artworks accommodated within its grounds.
The Wire Opera
Curitiba, Paraná
The Opera's ornate glass and metalwork building, found lakeside within Pedreiras park, makes for an exquisite location when it comes to theater, ballet and musical works, with enough seating for 2,400 spectators. The Pedreira Paulo Leminski, an open-air concert space named after Curitiba's famous poetic polymath, is located within the same reclaimed quarry.
