Highlight Story

Artist Shukla Chowdhury’s acrylic canvas paintings are on display at the Habitat Centre this week.

The exhibition, called Phoenix Sings a Song, has a collection of 28 works. These range from bold stroke paintings to wash canvases. Shukla Chowdhury’s paintings draw their inspiration from the phoenix, the mythical bird and its journey of life and re-birth.

Bright Horizon highlights the elements of nature, air, water, earth and fire. Most of her work has bright hues. She says, “ I use colours in their most natural form.”

The painting called After the Storm is Gone, which stirs dark imagery of the storm in the viewer’s mind, is testimony to her credo.

The bold strokes accentuate notions of power, freedom and self-discovery.

At the Open Palm Court Gallery, May 19-24.
