British ventriloquist Paul Zerdin will perform alongside Indian standup comedian Papa CJ in at ITC Grand Central in Mumbai tonight. The 37-year-old ventriloquist from London, who has just finished an India tour of India with Papa CJ, says this is first time an international ventriloquist has performed in Mumbai.

Zerdin has three characters he will imitate speaking. One is a kid puppet called Sam, a cocky, precocious boy. The second is an old man Albert, a half deaf man fond of ladies while the third is a baby.

“He might just find a lady in the front row that he wants to breastfeed off,” Zerdin says. Zerdin will also perform without the characters, imitating, for example, someone trapped in a bottle bank and getting a member of the audience to rescue them.

“I haven’t seen much of Mumbai apart from traffic, hotels, aeroplanes and a lot of bad driving. It’s a bit stinky,” he adds.

Papa CJ, 32, was born in Delhi, but has performed on the UK comedy circuit over the past five years. He is hosting the show as part of his new bi-monthly comedy event Papa CJ and Friends, where he promises to bring different international
comedians to Mumbai.
