That real power rests with those who have the money and stature to influence it, is a fact that has stood the test of time. Keeping up with this adage, Yatrik Theatre Group is set to open its latest production, an adaptation of Dario Fo’s famous play called Abducting Diana.
Set in Mumbai, the play delves into a raucous examination of the corruption of media, religion and politics, which is presented through the kidnapping of Diana Forbes-O’Brien, a ruthless media magnate, by three inept kidnappers. Anarchy explodes and the heiress proves to be a more competent criminal than those who abducted her.
Starring an eclectic set of actors, the play promises to be an irony wrapped in humour. But what does the cast expect the audience to look forward to? “We want them to come with an open mind,” says actor Keshav Moodliar. “We don’t have any particular message that we are trying to relay, except for the fact that such is the world,” says actor Varoon Anand. “As Hamlet tells his players, our principal task is to entertain,” Avijit sums it up.
