We have seen it over the years and its back again with another promising show. Khoj, an international artists’ association known for promoting and supporting some of the most cutting edge and experimental art practices since 1997, is set to open Peers 2013 on June 19 at Khirkee Extension.
The show will see five art graduates — Pratik Bhattacharya, Parag Sonarghare, Sashi Thavudoz, Niyati Upadhya and Juhikadevi Bhanjdeo from various parts of the country, showcasing their works made through diverse mediums. For a month, these young broke the rigidity of structured curriculum and came out of their comfort zone to take forward experimental and cutting edge work.
One of the most interesting artwork is by Bhanjdeo. He has used ribbons and razor blades to create a large installation that hangs from the studio ceiling. Stitched in several directions, the white ribbons pass through white razor blades creating a soft silhouette from a distance. “I have been working with various objects for the last four years. I chose ribbons and razor blades this time because I wanted to portray both the softness and harshness in female life,” says Bhanjdeo.
Another artist, Thavudoz has worked on a life-size installation made of waste packaging material to resemble a construction site. He says, “Through my work, I want to portray the condition of living in an over-populated metro like Delhi. The installation is made of different packaging materials, resembling the framework of a building.” The critic in residence, Shaheen Ahmed adds, “It’s a dynamic environment; these artists are incredible. They have used diverse mediums to create outstanding works. They have lot of ideas and they are very hard working.”
