Television actors are always on the lookout for better opportunities. And while films are an obvious choice, theatre is another possibility. Eijaz Khan is the latest to jump on to the bandwagon of actors who are going the theatre way. After his flop show, Shubh Vivah’s short stint on TV, the actor is now looking forward to his theatre debut with a Hindi comedy called The Seduction. Eijaz will be playing the role of Peter D’Souza, a seasoned seducer who tries his tricks on a married woman, Irena. The play has been adapted for the stage in Hindi by Ranjit Kapoor.
Talking about his role, Eijaz says, “The first dialogue that I say in the play is, “Ijaazat ho to kahoo ki doosron ki biwion ko pataanewaala mujhse badhkar maine aaj tak koi nahi dekha (With your permission, might I say that I haven’t seen a better seducer of the wives of other men, than myself). I have a bad case of stage fright but I am trying to overcome it. You can only grow if you come out of your comfort zone. I’ve been rehearsing like crazy, working hard, falling on my face and getting up everyday.” Eijaz is also shooting for a film called Lucky Kabootar, where he will be seen in the lead.
Elaborating on his stage fright, the actor adds, “I didn’t have the patience earlier, or maybe I was intimidated. However, I do feel the need to enlighten myself with this opportunity. Theatre is the purest form of acting.”
