A new year has begun. But before we celebrate new beginnings, there is still time to take one last walk down memory lane and relive some special moments. So we decided to talk to four established photographers, and asked them to choose their favourite shot of 2012. While they did have some difficulty zeroing in on that one image, here’s their list of their favourites.Rohan Shrestha
It’s a stunning image. I had this concept in mind for a long time, but it didn’t materialise. When Sonam Kapoor agreed to do the shoot, we began work on it. It was possible thanks to the make-up artiste Namrata Soni, stylist Tanya Ghavri and Sonam’s willingness to experiment. I shot the image in an old-school manner, which is why the image looks so vintage.Avinash Gowariker
This picture was shot for an editorial cover feature. I like it because it’s an odd angle to shoot a celebrity in. In the picture, Priyanka Chopra is lying on the floor. There’s a single, hard source of light, which is another challenge while shooting. It was possible only because Priyanka likes to experiment. I personally like the picture for its composition, which has a geometric feel to it.
This was the first time I shot with Arjun Rampal, and it happened to be in New York City. Now, the coincidence was that it’s one of my favourite cities to shoot in and Arjun likes it too. So there was already a sense of comfort with the surroundings. It was a casual shoot and it took around four hours to do it. We walked around New York City and went to several known locations. I personally like this picture because it’s got an international feel to it. For the first time, a Bollywood actor looks so international. Arjun blends in well with his environment and is easygoing with the shoot. Atul Kasbekar
Tag Heuer came to India nine years ago, and we’ve been associated with them all along. We’ve shot four campaigns for them so far, and it has been amazing. This one was special because there was a certain international standard we had to match up to. And the result was fantastic. In fact, this image was released internationally in strong Indian markets too.
