The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was ahead in seven constituencies in the initial Assam vote count on Thursday, officials said.
As per trends reported at 9am, the BJP led in 27 seats in Assam, the Congress in 10 and Badruddin Ajmal’s AIUDF in six. The halfway mark is 64 in an assembly of 126.
Authorities began counting the millions of votes cast in the Assam assembly elections in 51 centres.
A total of 1,064 candidates were in the fray for the 120 seats in the Assam assembly.
