Mohua Moitra, high-profile Trinamool candidate, is contesting from the Karimpur assembly constituency against sitting MLA CPI(M)’s Samarendranath Ghosh. When Moitra’s name was declared as a nominee, Nadia Trinamool started to search for a luxury accommodation for her.
Karimpur is a totally rural constituency. According to Nadia TMC leadership, Moitra needed a room with all modern facilities. Finally, they found an apartment. There isn’t a better flat in Karimpur.
A Trinamool source said the building is Laxmi Apartments. It is three-storied. Moitra lives on the first floor of that building at present. A part of the apartment was rented within seven days of her being declared as the Trinamool nominee: a bedroom, room for party workers’ meeting, dining room, kitchen and attached toilet and bathroom. About Rs 10,000 a month is the rent. The apartment has been rented for three months.
A local TMC leader said on condition of anonymity that there are three air-coolers in the bedroom. The room is well decorated with all modern facilities.
Moitra also likes to wear costly hand loom sari and almost every day she campaigning wearing different saris. She uses a number of cars with fully AC facilities. Internet facility is also available in the apartment rooms.
A source said, “Moitra likes to eat simple food. Dal, rice, vegetable and sometimes roti are on the menu for lunch. Tea and muri are on the evening menu.” It was reported that she was seen campaigning in Thanarpara area recently wearing a sunglass, a costly grey sari and sleek shoes.
Source said, Moitra studied in Kolkata and later did her graduation in economics and mathematics from Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts, US. She worked as an investment banker for JP Morgan in New York and London. She was vice-president of JP Morgan when she quit her lucrative job to enter politics.
Moitra once also featured on Verve magazine’s list of ‘charming women in Kolkata’. According to the magazine, Mahua is a stylish woman. And, a common man’s representative, right?
