Amid high voltage election campaigning in Uttarakhand, Congress has alleged “vendetta” against party’s poster boy chief minister Harish Rawat, a day after his chopper was frisked by the Election Commission team in Haldwani.

This is the second time in a week time that CM’s chopper was “searched” at Haldwani, the gateway to Kumaon hills.

Party spokesperson MD Joshi said on Saturday the search is nothing but an attempt to ‘break’ the morale of party cadres.

“BJP has miserably failed time and again. We condemn such tactics,” Joshi said, and questioned how many times the choppers of visiting Union ministers had been checked.

On Friday, the surveillance team of EC searched the CM’s chopper. The bags kept inside the chopper were checked thoroughly. Earlier on February 8, Rawat was left red-faced when the EC team arrived to search when he was about to board the private chopper at Haldwani.

“I will see whether PM’s chopper is checked or not,” Rawat reportedly told the EC team and accused Union ministers of bringing money for BJP candidates.

“Central Industrial Security Force and Income Tax sleuths are also helping in transporting money,” Rawat alleged.

In the last leg of campaigning in Uttarakhand that goes to polls on Feb 15, BJP has pressed in all the top leaders in the hill state—Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, Nitin Gadkari to name a few.

Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Haridwar on Friday. Today he will address another rally in Rudrapur in US Nagar district and third in Srinagar on Sunday.

It is learnt CM Rawat is contesting from two seats, one in Haridwar district and another in US Nagar district. BJP is particularly focusing in these two districts.

In fact, for the first time PM directly targeted Rawat in Haridwar.
