One person was killed when supporters of Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party candidates clashed in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The incident took place on Jalesar Road near Manikpur village.
A case has been registered against the accused, who are alleged to be supporters of SP candidate and sitting MLA Devendra Agarwal.
In the complaint lodged with Sadabad police, the father of the deceased, Pushpendra, alleged that his son was going to Kokna Kalan with Chiragveer Upadhyay, son of former minister and BSP candidate Ramveer Upadhyay for an election-related programme.
He alleged that the nephew of Devendra Agarwal became involved in a clash with BSP supporters near Manikpura. They blocked the way and attacked the BSP workers, and in the ensuing firing, Pushpendra sustained a bullet injury. He was taken to Agra but died.
Security has been beefed up at the houses of both candidates in Sadabad.
Hathras superintendent of police Dilip Kumar said a case has been registered against those named in the FIR.
“All security arrangements have been undertaken and force deployed at sensitive locations,”’ he said.
