Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Mamata Banerjee and J Jayalalithaa, chief ministers of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu respectively, on their victories in the assembly elections.
The PM took to Twitter to convey his wishes to the chiefs of Trinamool Congress and AIADMK as well as Sarbananda Sonowal, the Bharatiya Janata Party chief ministerial candidate for Assam.

West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress and Tamil Nadu’s ruling AIADMK were set to retain power while the BJP was on the road to victory in Assam and the Left made a comeback in Kerala, trends of the assembly poll results showed.

The BJP looked set to make a historic debut in the Northeast on Thursday with early assembly election trends from Assam showing the party could surge past the majority mark in the state.
The saffron party has never won an election in Assam and was described as a party of the Hindi heartland by its political opponents in the poll campaign.
Congratulating Sonowal, the PM said BJP will do everything possible to fulfil dreams of the people of Assam.
