Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address an election rally in Barpeta District of Assam on Thursday, ahead of the second phase of the assembly elections.
Gandhi, earlier in her rally in Sivasagar on March 30, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about Assam tea but he has done nothing to improve the plight of tea garden workers.
Accusing the Modi-led NDA government of being biased towards Assam, she said chief minister Tarun Gogoi has struggled for the progress of the state.
The first phase of Assam assembly elections across 65 constituencies was peaceful, with a voter turnout of 70%.
The main issues coming to the fore are illegal immigration, corruption, issues faced by tribals and river bank erosion.
With four days to go for the second phase of polls, voter awareness drives are being carried out through media to educate citizens about the electoral process.
