DMDK women’s wing leader and party founder Vijayakanth’s wife Premalatha has been booked for allegedly instigating voters to accept money from DMK and AIADMK to vote in the coming assembly elections.

Premalatha allegedly made the controversial remark during a public meeting she addressed in Tirunelveli recently, police said.

The case had been registered under the Representation of People Act and IPC on a complaint registered by local AIADMK workers with election officials and on the basis of a report submitted by the officials along with the recordings of her speech at the meeting, they said.

According to the police, Premalatha, in a veiled reference to DMK and AIADMK, allegedly told the gathering “some political parties will offer to give Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 per vote. You ask them Rs 1 lakh per vote”.
