Actor Amitabh Bachchan today decided to donate Rs 2.5 lakh to Delhi police constable Subash Chand Tomar who died after succumbing to his injuries during the anti-gangrape protest at India Gate on Sunday.

A day after Janata Dal (United) broke its 17-year-old alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday blamed the BJP for the end of 17-year-old alliance. A New Delhi court sent cricketer Ajit Chandila, accused of spot fixing in the Indian Premier League , to police custody for three days today. The Delhi Police told court that Chandila was required to corroborate evidence collected from other accused in the Indian Premier League scam. About 52 people who were stranded in a heavily flooded area in Haryana were rescued by a joint operation run by the army and the National Disaster Relief Management (NDRF) teams. The people were trapped within a tract of land at Lapra village in the state’s Yamunanagar district after the surrounding area was heavily flooded by the water of the Yamuna River. Atleast 10 people are feared dead in Uttarakhand after incessant rains lashed the hilly region, causing landslide.
