A Neem tree has assumed divine status for the villagers of Baigpur in Moradabad district. The locals and nearby villagers have been flocking in hundreds each day and offering obeisance to a tree whose trunk has been oozing with a milky white sticky fluid. Loud music and religious hymns accompany the frenzied activity around the otherwise desolate tree that grows in a farmers fields.

Elizabeth Hurley, British actress and model and her partner Indian businessman Arun Nayar arrived in India on Monday. Hurley, 41, and Nayar, 42, married on Friday in a civil ceremony in England at Sudeley Castle, where celebrity guests were gathered for the party on Saturday, a local government spokeswoman said. The couple is in India to tie a knot in traditional Indian ceremony, spreading over a period of six days. The couple will meet a select group of friends and relations in Mumbai from where they would proceed to Jodhpur in Rajasthan for the ceremonies.

The training, though open to all, is attracting more students. With an aim to arouse public awareness about the environment degradation, the trust feels the state should come forward to promote awareness about marine life.

Pakistan home minister Rehman Malik today said that the agreement on a new visa regime with India would not be signed, but would be concluded at the political level. Speaking on the fact that India was insisting that Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed was the mastermind behind the Mumbai attacks, Rehman replied that Pakistani authorities would examine the new evidence against Saeed. Justifying the latest hike in petrol prices union oil minister S Jaipal Reddy today said that global pressure had fuelled the price hike. Reddy added that the global oil prices were beyond government’s control. There will be no rollback in the hike for now, since the government cannot find an instant solution for the issue, the minister said.
