Goa rolls out the red carpet as it gears up to celebrate movies in the true spirit of world class entertainment. The IFFI 2007 will be held from November 23 to December 3. Shahrukh Khan will be inaugurating the event. The security arrangements have been tightened for the event. There will be no entertainment programmes in the 38th edition of the film festival, which will be a closed-door affair.

A Neem tree has assumed divine status for the villagers of Baigpur in Moradabad district. The locals and nearby villagers have been flocking in hundreds each day and offering obeisance to a tree whose trunk has been oozing with a milky white sticky fluid. Loud music and religious hymns accompany the frenzied activity around the otherwise desolate tree that grows in a farmers fields.

Elizabeth Hurley, British actress and model and her partner Indian businessman Arun Nayar arrived in India on Monday. Hurley, 41, and Nayar, 42, married on Friday in a civil ceremony in England at Sudeley Castle, where celebrity guests were gathered for the party on Saturday, a local government spokeswoman said. The couple is in India to tie a knot in traditional Indian ceremony, spreading over a period of six days. The couple will meet a select group of friends and relations in Mumbai from where they would proceed to Jodhpur in Rajasthan for the ceremonies.

<P>Debutant director Amrit Sagars forthcoming flick <EM>1971</EM> is all set to hit the theatres soon. The music of the movie was launched at INS Vikrant, one of the iconic warships of Indian Navy, as no other venue could have hosted this. INS Vikrant had played a major role in the Indian Victory in 1971 war. It had struck strategic targets in East Pakistan paving the way for early surrender of the Pakistani troops there. </P>

Gujarat Marine Educational Trust, a private institute, is trying to bring in as many volunteers especially children to educate them on marine biology and its rising exploitation through training in scuba diving. The training, though open to all, is attracting more students. With an aim to arouse public awareness about the environment degradation, the trust feels the state should come forward to promote awareness about marine life.

Pakistan home minister Rehman Malik today said that the agreement on a new visa regime with India would not be signed, but would be concluded at the political level.
