The supporters of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) took to streets in Chennai against Supreme Court’s stay on release of three convicts in Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case. Police in Chennai detained few of the protesters, who were shouting anti-Congress slogans, to bring the situation under control. Members of the regional Tamil National Alliance (TNA) supported Jayalalithaa’s decision of releasing the three convicts after the apex court commuted their death sentence to a life term. The government also filed a petition at the Supreme Court arguing that Jayalalithaa's government did not have the power to free the ethnic Tamil convicts.
