Fodder scam: Lalu Prasad sentenced to five years in jail

The CBI court in Ranchi on Thursday sentenced former Bihar CM and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad yadav to 5 years’ rigorous imprisonment in a 17-year-old fodder scam case. He has also been slapped with a fine of Rs 25 lakh by the court that announced the quantum of punishment via video conference due to security reasons. Former Bihar CM Jagannath Mishra & JD (U) MP Jagdish Sharma got 4-year jail each and penalty of Rs 2 lakh & 5 lakh respectively. Lalu was convicted on Monday with 44 others in the case that involves the embezzlement of 950 crores from the state government treasury in the name of fodder and medicines for non-existent cattle.
