Several banned anti-India militant groups, including the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, gathered in Islamabad to condemn the execution of Kashmiri militant Afzal Guru by India last week. Scores of members of the groups gathered for a conference organized by the United Jihad Council. Guru, an Indian national, was hanged in Tihar jail in New Delhi, early on February 9th for his alleged involvement in an attack on the parliament in 2001. Syed Salahuddin, chief of the Hizbul Mujahideen, a key Kashmir-based militant group operating in Indian Kashmir, said that Guru’s execution was an obvious act of state terrorism.
