The violence undertaken by the Jamaat in Bangladesh and their continuous attempts to brand Shahbag protesters as non-believers has raised many questions. Is the Shahbag protest secular or anti-Islamic or nationalist or is it all three? In an exclusive interview to ANI, prominent Indian Historian S Irfan Habib spoke about how Bangladesh is caught in the web of Islamism at the same time when secularism is very much a part of the ongoing protest. Habib further stated that Islam and Islamism are separate and they should be viewed differently.
