Air India pilots strike enters fifth day

Passengers' continued to face the brunt as the ongoing strike by Air India pilots entered its fifth day on Sunday. This strike had resulted in cancellation of several flights, leaving passengers stranded at airports. The government on its part is talking tough, ruling out any talks with the striking pilots unless they called off their agitation.

Indefinite curfew imposed in violence hit Assam

Indefinite curfew is imposed in Dhubri district of Assam today, after a fresh round of ethnic violence claimed three lives, taking the overall toll to more than 60 deaths. Earlier a group of over 500 people blocked the national highway, protesting the killing. The three people were killed in Kokrajhar district when some people opened fire on a group at Ranibuli village recently. Two people were injured in the incident. Earlier in the day, Assam Chief minister Tarun Gogoi recommended a probe by the CBI, into the ethnic clashes.

 

Hamid Ansari re-elected as Vice President

UPA candidate Hamid Ansari has been re-elected for the second time as India's vice-president. Of the 736 votes cast, Ansari got 490 votes, 252 more than his opponent Jaswant Singh. Eight votes were declared invalid. Ansari, 75, was supported by lawmakers of the Congress-led coalition. The retired diplomat first became vice-president in 2007.

IPL Season 4:  KXIP address media after losing against MI

In the Indian Premier League cricket tournament played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on Monday, the Mumbai Indians beat Kings XI Punjab by 23 runs. In reply to 160 runs, Punjab managed to score 136/8 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Skipper Sachin Tendulkar and Amabati Raydu scored fifty to power Mumbai Indians towards 159/5 against Kings XI Punjab. Tendulkar and Rayudu scored 51 runs each. With this half-century, Tendulkar became the orange cap owner.

IPL Season 4: No slip up on agenda: Whatmore

Kolkata Knight Riders coach Dav Whatmore on Monday said that he doesn't want to see more slip ups in the upcoming crucial match against the Deccan Chargers (DC) in Hyderabad. In their last game, KKR defeated Kings XI Punjab by eight wickets in Kolkata on Saturday. Gopal Kanda claims innocence in Geetika suicide case

New Delhi/Chandigarh, Aug 07 (ANI): Main accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, Gopal Goyal Kanda has claimed that he is innocent and is a victim of conspiracy. Meanwhile, a team of the National Commission for Women (NCW) today visited Geetika Sharma's home, after the former airhostess hanged herself at her residence on Saturday and left behind a note accusing MDLR airline owner and Haryana Minister Kanda for harassment.The visit came as the family of the slain girl demanded a CBI probe into her death.

 

Fiza’s autopsy report out, Cause of death unclear

The preliminary autopsy report of Fiza Mohammad alias Anuradha Bali, the ex-wife of former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan Bali, has indicated no injury marks on her body, leaving the cause of death unclear.
