<P>Promoters of the Essar Group and the Loop Telecom were today granted exemption from personal appearance by a Delhi court, which had summoned them as accused in the multi-billion 2G case. The Essar group, counsel, Mukul Rohtagi told reporters that an application was moved, seeking exemption from personal appearance for his client on grounds that they were residents of Dubai and that they had not been served the summons on time. </P>

Pakistani foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar has said she would meet US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in London on Thursday to discuss relations that have been damaged by a cross-border Nato air attack last November that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. She was addressing joint press conference with British foreign secretary William Hague after their meeting in London on Tuesday evening. Pakistan closed Nato supply routes to Afghanistan after the air attack, which plunged relations between Pakistan and the United States to their lowest point in years.

The Indian womens hockey team sealed a comfortable 3-0 win against Poland in their third Olympic qualifier match in New Delhi on Tuesday. Speaking to mediapersons after the match, teams’ coach Kumar said his team had created ample scoring chances, which was satisfying though the lack of goals from penalty corners needed to be looked at. The Indian teams next match, viewed as a dress rehearsal for the final, will be against 12th ranked South Africa.

A top executive of Japan’s scandal-ridden Olympus Corp, Tsutomu Omori, has been found dead in a park in Gurgaon. According to newspaper reports, Omori (49) who was head of Olympuss medical equipment business in India, was found hanging from a boundary wall by a gardener in the park on Monday. After discovering the body, the gardener immediately informed the security guards at the upscale residential complex. The police soon arrived with other Olympus employees, who recovered two suicide notes written in Japanese. However, the police said there was no suggestion of a link to the Olympus scandal.

Reacting to the ongoing Kingfisher Airlines crisis, civil aviation minister, Ajit Singh has said the top priority is to ensure that passenger security is not compromised. Talking to mediapersons in New Delhi, Singh again ruled out any bailout package for the beleaguered airlines. The passengers continued to be at the receiving end of the crisis. However they hope that the crisis would be over soon.

The Kingfisher Airlines operations remained disrupted for the third consecutive day as it cancelled 14 flights on Monday. The directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) has summoned the CEO of Kingfisher Airlines Sanjay Aggrawal on Tuesday to explain flight cancellations. Meanwhile, civil aviation minister Ajit Singh ruled out any bailout package for the beleaguered airline and added that the government is keeping a close look at the situation.

The cost to fly to the Paradise on Earth has increased almost four times the normal cost in the recent couple of weeks. During May, the airfare from New Delhi to Srinagar was between rupees 2,500 to 3,500. June saw the fares shoot up till rupees 14,000 to 15,000. This trend is seen for the first time in the past four decades.
