India's second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland will supply 500 more buses to Angola by March-end, taking the total order to 1,000 vehicles valued at $43.5 million, it said on Thursday.
According to the company, the order for the supply of an additional 500 mini buses - 50 being air-conditioned - was bagged last month.
Last August, Ashok Leyland had bagged an order to supply 500 buses - 300 specially designed vehicles and 200 Falcon buses.
The specially designed vehicle is to cater to Angola's rural population, who travel to the cities with agri-produce and return with provisions. A compartment for goods has been added to these buses, which have 30 seats.
"These orders are definitive steps in our global plans of creating a significant presence in the second hemisphere markets and come close on the heels of the orders for defence vehicles from Honduras and Thailand," said company managing director R Seshasayee in a statement.
