Auto majors report car sales for June, Maruti and Mahindra decline

The country's largest car-maker, Maruti Suzuki India, reported a 12.6% decline in total sales in June this year at 84,455 units whereas Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.), India's largest sports utility vehicle maker, said its June sales fell nearly 8% compared with a year ago. For June 2013, Maruti reported 7.8% decline in domestic sales at 77,002 units, over 83,531 units in June, 2012.Mahindra’s auto sales numbers for June 2013 which stood at 38092 units as against 41322 units during June 2012.

Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), a leading manufacturer of premium cars in India reported a sales growth of 248% during June 2013 by selling 9,297 units as against 2,667 units sold during June 2012. The company sold 29,127 units from April – June 13, as against 20,076 units sold during the same period last year, marking a growth of 45%. HCIL also exported a total volume of 761 units during June 2013.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) sold 13,805 units in June 2013 when compared to 17,140 units last year. Sales declined by 19%. The company exported 2,795 units of the Etios series last month. The company sold 11,010 units in the domestic market in June 2013 as compared to 14,700 units in the corresponding month in 2012.

Tata Motors' total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in June 2013 were 52,708 vehicles. The company's domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for June 2013 were 48,712 nos. Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal were 153,191 nos while in June 2012 it was 64,341 vehicles.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter, registered approx.1 % growth in domestic sales for the month of June 2013. The domestic sales accounted for 30,610 units and exports stood at 24,057 units. In June 2012 their domestic sales accounted for 30,450 units.

Ford India sold 7,145 vehicles in the domestic market boosted by the launch of All-new Ford EcoSport, a surge of percent year on year, in a market where macroeconomic factors and high interest rates continue to negatively affect consumer demand. The company had sold 6,267 units domestically in June last year. Exports rose 59% in June to 1,626 vehicles from 1,024 vehicles a year earlier as demand for Ford’s India-built vehicles rose overseas.
