The domestic automobile industry posted a marginal growth in June with passenger car sales growing by 6.1 per cent, while motorcycle and commercial vehicles sales went up by 8.2 per cent and 13.5 per cent, respectively.
According to the figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, domestic passenger car sales in June 2008 stood at 99,738 units, against 94,002 units in the same month last year.
Market leader Maruti Suzuki India struggled during the month with a growth of 2.4 per cent, while Tata Motors saw its sales decline by 5.8 per cent. Growth in the car market was largely held by Hyundai Motor India, which posted a 34 per cent jump at 21,877 units against 16,314 in June last year. The growth in two-wheeler sales in June was mainly on account of increase in motorcycle sales.
