Domestic passenger car sales lurched back to the positive zone growing by 2.84 per cent in September to 1.08 lakh units from 1.05 lakh units in the same month last year. Sales had declined in July and August and September's growth is attributed largely to expectations of a bumper festive season.

Two wheeler sales which are most affected during festive months, grew at a higher clip by 14.51 per cent led by motorcycles which grew by 15.22 per cent during the month.

According to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), companies' dispatched 7.78 lakh two wheelers and 6.32 lakh motorcycles to dealers during the month.

The positivity however, did not rub off on commercial vehicles sales, which decreased marginally by almost 1 per cent to 42,698 units from 43,091 units in the year-ago period.
