Tata Motors plans to deliver one lakh of its Nanos in the start, but judging from the elaborate launch exercise, along with a lottery-like rush, the first phase could well be a way to test the market response.

While the Pantnagar facility is capable of producing 50,000 cars per year, the Sanand plant at Gujarat expected to go on stream later this year will have a capacity to make 2.5 lakh cars a year.

While the company will begin deliveries from July, there is no guarantee for the timeline within which the last of the 1 lakh cars that Tata Motors has pledged, will be delivered.

The company would then ramp up production according to the demand generated, managing director Ravi Kant said on Monday.
