The world’s biggest car-maker, Toyota, has set the ball rolling for a new contest, with the launch of its entry-level sedan, Etios, on Wednesday.
The base variant of the 1.5-litre petrol-powered sedan will cost Rs 4,96,000 at showrooms in New Delhi. The top-end version will cost Rs 6,86,000.
Its main competition, Maruti Suzuki’s Swift Dzire costs around Rs4.8 lakh for the base model, while Tata Motors’ Indigo Manza is priced at around Rs 5.12 lakh.
Toyota president Akio Toyoda acknowledged the prevalent crisis in the company with a wry invitation: “Sometimes the conditions may not be perfect and Etios may have some problem. Please feel free to bring the car to our sales dealership...so it can smile again and can be driven for many years.”
