Japanese car major Honda may soon come out with a diesel-run midsize sedan or high end hatchback. The newly-appointed marketing director of Honda Siel Cars India Saki Inaba said the company is developing a sub 1.5 litre diesel engine which may be used in some of its existing models or will come fitted with in an all new model.
"Introduction of diesel model is not the only option to grow in India. We are planning to expand our network into smaller cities as well," said Inaba.
Inaba said that the company is thinking of an all-new model which will be run on this diesel engine and is also considering some of its models such as Honda City or Honda Jazz to be fitted with this engine. Inaba did not put out a timeframe for the launch of Honda's diesel-run new car. Honda cars are predominantly gasoline-run.
Inaba said that the sports utility vehicle Honda CRV may come with 2.2 litre diesel engine. The company currently supplies Honda CRV with 2.2 litre diesel engine to the European markets.
